Utah's 2027 enrollment dates

Utah uses HealthCare.gov, so it follows the federal marketplace's calendar.

After January 15

Enrolling later takes a qualifying life event, such as losing job-based coverage, moving, marriage or a birth.

If you already have a plan

Your 2027 premium and network can change even if you keep the same plan. Check both during open enrollment instead of letting the plan renew unseen.

What's changing in Utah for 2027

Six insurers sell individual plans in Utah for 2027, and one of them sells only off the exchange. For 2026, 387,336 Utahns picked a marketplace plan, down 8.2% from 2025.

Rates up 3.89% to 15.75%

The Utah Insurance Department accepted 2027 rate increases from 3.89% to 15.75%, depending on the insurer, before any tax credit.

One insurer moves off the exchange

One of Utah's insurers sells only off-exchange plans for 2027, and those come with no premium tax credit. If your plan has left HealthCare.gov, choose one that's still there to keep your credit.

Utah Medicaid changes in 2027

CMS approved Utah's full Medicaid expansion in December 2019. On January 1, 2027, adults in the Adult Expansion and Targeted Adult Medicaid programs get new rules.

Community engagement

Members 19 to 64 need 80 hours a month of work, job training, half-time school or volunteering, or $580 a month in earnings, unless they're exempt.

Renewals every six months

Most of these members renew every 6 months instead of every year.

Utah's trigger law

If the federal share of expansion costs falls below 90%, Utah's expansion ends the day after the next general legislative session adjourns.

For Utah employers

In Utah, a business that sets a monthly allowance through an ICHRA (CMS's new name for it is a CHOICE arrangement) lets each employee buy the individual plan that suits them, tax-free.
